Interim Financial Controller (3–6 Month Contract)
Central London | Up to £70,000 pro rata
  
We are supporting a prestigious organisation in the education and arts sector to appoint an Interim Financial Controller for a 3–6 month contract. This is a short term role whilst the team is restructuring, offering an opportunity to make a real impact by strengthening financial reporting, processes, and controls during a key transitional period. The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with proven experience leading an audit, overseeing financial operations, and supporting senior leadership with strategic decision-making.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage core finance operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the general ledger.
  • Partner with senior leadership to provide financial insights that inform strategic planning and operational performance.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close, including coordination of the audit process.
  • Prepare and monitor annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, tax, and reporting regulations.
  • Mentor and guide finance team members to promote professional growth and alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Review and improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls.
  
Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with experience leading an audit.
  • Experience within the education, charity, or arts sectors is desired.
  • Strong understanding of UK accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
  • Plenty of VAT experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial data clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
